Today the weather has been simply glorious!

This morning Lynne drove us to Homebase to buy some pots, and when we got back we had a cup of tea in the garden. It felt so good to be able to sit outside that part of us didn't really want to leave home to travel across London.

But we did and really enjoyed our afternoon!

Tony and Malcolm had invited us over for a BBQ. They are both lovely people and it's a shame we don't see them more often.

There were also 3 bears from Manchester (down south for bear pride) and 3 gentlemen from (Greater) London.
The food was superb and the company most enjoyable!

It was so warm that the shirts came off!

My Sunday

These pictures should really go on [livejournal.com profile] london1952 's journal as he took them all (apart from the last two).

Repotting some seedlings in the morning

In the afternoon we went to Gary& Luca's BBQ ([livejournal.com profile] erstexman  was also invited).

Did we have fun? Well sort of. Apart from the neighbours (Sue, Lynne) the majority were bitchy South-African twinks (friends of Luca's) and we didn't really mix at all.

Wallflower or sociopath?

I know I should have made more of an effort, but well I'm too old to pretend and to care!

The weather also turned rather chilly.

Lynne went home to get a couple of blankets

and a vintage board game (London buses) which kind of saved the day

All the neighbours (and Evan) left together and came back here to get warm, drink tea, eat cake and play "20 questions" and Consequences.  And that was the best part of the day! (the BBQ food was also great: thank you G+L)

Miss 69

Gary and Luca were lucky as it didn’t rain on their BBQ on Saturday. It was a very nice BBQ with lots to eat (most guests brought meat and more).
It was mix of gay neighbours, other neighbours (some we didn’t know) and friends.

People drink and get merry at parties all over the world (well, almost). People in the UK get plastered at any social function. I am not being judgmental, I am simply stating a fact.
On these occasions some people get chatty and friendly, some get abusive and some simply annoying.

So after this preface, I can introduce ‘miss 69’ and her boyfriend.

‘Miss 69’ lives next door to G&L and came to the party already slightly worse for wear I think. Not that she needed a drink to lose her inhibitions. She was wearing a semi-transparent top and underneath a bikini top.
She was very loud, and first wanted to marry Utku because he was gorgeous and then me because of the chocolate and pistachio fudge that I made. She was craving attention.
Her bikini top came undone at some point. (She lives at no. 69 – and she pointed that out suggestively a number of times).
‘Miss 69’ doesn’t go to any of the residents association dos, because she’s shy (translated: she cannot be sole centre of the attention).

Her b/f was there too. Dirty blond hair, sunglasses (there was no sun)… at one point they sat at either side of me and I wished that I hadn’t been there. The b/f was loud as well, and started to make fun of the Italians and I had “to excuse him because he had drunk”. As if.

That couple spoiled the BBQ for me, even though it gave everybody else plenty to talk about after they left.  But I really enjoyed myself when we went back to Lynne's after the BBQ.

The Hadrian exhibition at the British Museum was very good. A bit crowded (but it could have been much worse). By far the section with more visitors lingering was the one dedicated to his male lover Antinous. Nothing better than sex and a dubious death to draw in the crowds. Well almost: try to offer free drinks.

We just got back from Richard and Con's BBQ/Birthday party.

It took a while to get there because I left the piece of paper with their address at home.  And my mobile too so I didn't have Richard's no. either.

I could only recall that the first of the three digits was a 1. We looked for signs of a party and tried to smell a BBQ, but in vain. After some wandering, we spotted a couple who knocked at a front door and it was RIchard who answered it!

*-*-*-*-*
It was a mix of bears and neighbours.

I am not very good at socialising at parties (and hopeless at small talk in general) but I made a valiant effort.

I recognised a guy who I used to chat to on-line ages ago and started talking to him:
"Last time I saw you, we were all in Sitges"
   "Yes almost 2 years ago"
"And you were with a stag party. You were the one getting married, weren't you?"
   "Yes it was me"
"Where's your partner tonight?"
"We split after only 89 days"

Bloody hell, I thought. I put my foot right in it! It was my last overture of the evening.

BBQs

Our meat-feast week ended with 2 BBQs.

The one on Saturday was organised by the residents' association down our street: it was good, albeit fewer people than expected turned up.
We were there from 2:15 pm till 8:30 and then, with a number of neighbours-friends (most of them gay and lesbian), we went to the Bridge House Tavern. The evening ended with tea and coffe at our place.
We went to bed at 2 am, exhausted!

Yesterday, we travelled across London (from SE London to NE London) to see Malcolm and Tony in Walthamstow. They are the other 2 bearded ice-cream-ettes, and wonderful and charming hosts too!

We had another BBQ (the burgers and sausages were delicious) and they had prepared two cakes! THe first one was a gorgeous plum cake in a hazelnut pastry case and the other, which looked very much like panforte, "death by chocolate": an extremely rich cake made of amaretti, melted chocolate, walnuts, brandy. Wonderful!

In pictures (taken by Adrian on his mobile)

BBQ!

Lynne and Jennifer invited us to a barbecue they organised for all the people living in their road, due streets up from us.
They closed the road (it's a cul-de-sac), and with the help of neighbours set some tables and chairs in the middle of the street; they had 3 barbecues going in their front garden.
Adrian prepared lots of pork and vegetable kebabs, and we brought some sausages (cooked at home) too, plus beer.
It was a very nice afternoon/evening: we were there eating, drinking and chatting from 3 pm till 9:30 pm!!
Peter and Sim, Neil and Bobby, Sue, and many other friendly faces were there.

It's amazing that we are in London (only 18 minutes by train from Victoria) but yet it's a place where you talk to your neighbours and there's a sense of community. This is really because these four streets are quite separate from the rest of the neighbourhood (being a conservation area) and we have a rather active residents' association. (The fact that there is a number of gay/lesbian couples helps too!)

We had quite a bit to drink... so when we got home Adrian ([personal profile] london1952 ) decided to sing me some Celine!! The camera only recorded about 30 seconds before switching itself off.... but isn't he just so funny and adorable?
