Monday evening was our last night in Italy and we had a 'proper' dinner to end the holiday, and also to celebrate (2 days early) our 14th anniversary.

We went to the very popular and lively Ca' de Vèn housed in a 15th century palazzo, just a stone-throw away from Dante's tomb and Piazza del Popolo.

Emilia-Romagna has the reputation for being one of the best regions (some would even say 'the' best) for food in Italy and I'm pleased to say that dinner exceeded the high expectations.
We chose the 'menu degustazione': 5 courses with 5 different wines (and for a very good price - 37 euros each).

In order:

I must say that the food was just scrumptious, all 5 courses. And the wine too.

But the best part - as always - was to be with my Adrian ([livejournal.com profile] london1952). Happy Anniversary Darling! And thank you for making my life so special!

Happy anniversary. English on the menu in Italy? I haven't been to Italy in more than 40 years but I do remember wondering what in the heck I was ordering and eating. English would have been a great idea! :)

Thank you!

Yes things have moved on in the last 15 years or so - now many restaurants in the tourist destinations have English (and French and German) translations.
Of course not quite so common off the beaten track!

The dinner looks gorgeous, as do the surroundings. But your toast to Adrian is what will linter in my mind. You two are darlings. Happy Anniversary.

My, my, my! What a beautiful dinner in an amazing setting. Perfect for a happy anniversary celebration. :-)

To be honest, I've never seen tortelli (tortellini, yes) but I want some right now.

The dessert appears to be a lightly burned creme brulée. Was it? And how was it?

Please excuse me while I lick the screen. :-)

Tortelli are just large tortellini and tortelloni are even bigger (although the classification is not rigorous - the ones we had could have been tortelloni).

It was crema catalana, and very yellow! And very yummy!

Looks lovely - and happy anniversary!

But a culinary question - is the beef in the first course cooked or raw? It looks more than a bit rare!

Bladder Campion? I found out that was a flower! Thank God! I was about to freak out - I was thinking bladder - like from an animal. Oh hell to the NO on that, lolz!

Thanks very much Dan!

Well carpaccio should be raw. In my region (where apparently the recipe originates from - before it was made famous in Venice as Carpaccio) the slices are not quite as thin as in the picture and it really looks like raw beef!

The one we had in Ravenna was more like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bresaola (cured beef), and that was lucky because Adrian doesn't like the 'real' carpaccio.

I agree with you re bladder!! Yuk! lol
