From 'La Mole' to Penge

Adrian's Mum has been visiting for a few days.
As every year, we hired a car (and a wheelchair) and have been out and about at the week-end.

On Saturday we went for a ride on the The Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, a "miniature" railway that connects Hythe to the Dungeness.

The (mainly) steam locomotives and carriages are 1/3 of the normal size, giving a quaint Lilliputian feeling to the experience.
It took over an hour to reach Dungeness, only 13 miles away.


(I only discovered today why one of the locomotives was sporting Swiss flags - thanks to zurcherart )


By the time we had scampi, peas and chips at the local cafe', it  had started raining.
Adrian and I still managed to go up the old lighthouse.

I think Adrian was a bit disappointed by Dungeness.
Imagine Provincetown in the rain, take away the sand and put pebbles, replace the lovely houses, shops and restaurants with a few small wooden houses, a nuclear power station and a railway cafe'.

I quite liked it. There was something rather sad but appealing about the place. Said that, I won't be rushing back any time soon.
