“Absurd Person Singular” and A&F
Mar. 6th, 2008 04:58 pmLast night we went to the theatre, to see Alan Ayckbourn’s dark comedy “Absurd Person Singular”.

It was superb. The 6 person cast included the versatile and funny Jane Horrocks, and David Bamber (whom I last recall seeing in “Rome” playing Cicero).

The play is made of 3 acts, set in different kitchens and on different Christmas Eves. The second act, in which depressed Eva tries many times and in vain to commit suicide, was the funniest, a real farce.
In one scene David Bamber took off his short to reveal an unexpectedly muscular physique!
Lia Williams and Jenny Seagrove were great but we couldn’t help imagining Joanna Lumley playing posh, gin addict Marion and Jennifer Saunders suicidal Eve.
On the way to the theatre, we stopped at Abercrombie & Fitch, temple of the vain, young and insipidly beautiful.
The London shop is in a gorgeous building at the back of the Royal Academy of Arts; and it is certainly NOT an attitude-free zone.
The music was really loud, only a few decibels lower than on the XXL dance floor. But the shop was fantastic with shelves packed with clothes up to the ceiling.
