Yesterday - before going swimming - David (aka Wiggly) and Robert came round for brunch.
They travelled all the way from Ealing with 2 large and heavy suitcases which contained Adrian's collection of miniature bottles.

These bottles belonged to Adrian's grandfather and when Adrian moved to his studio-flat about 16 years ago, he gave them to David for safekeeping, due to lack of space. They kept them in the garden shed and were damaged by water.

Adrian spent quite a bit of time last night and today going through them. Sadly not much can be saved.

Their contents evaporated and the labels peeled off and discoloured.

Here are a few that Adrian washed because they have unusual colours and/or shapes

and here are some in their original condition

Adrian said he's going to offer some to the Garden Museum as there were looking for little containers for nosegays on the tables in the cafe'.

It must have taken Adrian a long time to assemble such a collection!

I only contributed about 20 of them, my grandfather had been collecting them for years, so the majority of them were well over 50 years old. I feel a bit guilty for not looking after them now....... I have his catalogue of them somewhere... I must find it and count how many there were.... I think upwards of 300.....

What a shame that so many were damaged. But, at least Adrian has the bottles again, and he can decide which he wants to keep. Because they are so small, he might want to consider keeping them all, although withough their original labels, some would be worthless, if he was considering them as a commercial investment. If he was not, then the size and colour of the glass, along with imprints, screw tops, corks, etc. will make the bottles fascinating to anyone who views them. What a marvellous idea it was to collect them.

He's going to keep some, although not quite sure where! LOL!
Some may end up in the Garden Museum as they were looking for containers for small nosegays.

Lovely. It would be a shame to see them go to waste after all this time.
