It's really more a matter of principle than anything else as Civil Partneships give the same rights/duties.
But the fact that it is a different type of 'contract' makes one feel a class B citizen. Plus I want to say that I am married (well will be married) without using the inverted commas.
I would have never imagined a Conservative Prime Minister pushing this through parliament, although his party was divided.

Date: 2013-02-05 08:26 pm (UTC)I don't think the US will have anything like that kind of majority if/when a similar bill comes up. Mind you, they couldn't even pass an equal rights for women amendment to the constitution. As much as I enjoy living here, it still feels oddly backwater.
