was a 17th century architect (and priest, mathematician, philosopher) from Modena but is mainly remembered for the Baroque masterpieces that he built in Torino.

Palazzo Carignano with its curved facade and the brick decorations

the Royal Church of San Lorenzo in Piazza Castello

with its dome where everything is based on the number 8

and of course the extravagant Chapel of the Holy Shroud

I'm afraid I only have a picture of the exterior as the chapel has been closed since the 1997 fire, but I can assure you that the interior is quite breathtaking as you can judge for yourselves from this Wikipedia photo:

Is the chapel undergoing restoration or it's going to remain closed?

The interior of the Chapel of the Holy Shroud looks amazing. When Paul and I visited Turin, I thought that we were inside, but maybe it is a different church the contains the shroud, or the shroud has been temporarily removed while the chapel is closed? I don't believe we saw the shroud itself, just a representation of it.

The chapel of Holy Shroud hasn't been opened since the fire in 1997 (and was already closed then because of undergoing restoration). Apparently the restoration has stopped because of a lack of funds!
The shroud is still the in the Duomo but stored behind the main altar and it's only visible during the special 'ostensioni' every few years.

Thanks for clarifying this. When we visited the Duomo, the Chapel was closed. We didn't see the actual shroud, but a facsimilie of it.
