A while ago a few of you posted the results of the "How many have your name" search in the U.S....
There's a similar site that shows how many people with a given surname there are in Italy, and thought that it could be of some interest for people of Italian descent (or you can always check how many Smiths, Garniers, Meyers, etc. there are):
Gens Labo  (enter the surname in the Cognome field anc lick on the arrow)

As Italy was effectively a collection of small indipendent countries until 1860, each with distinct dialects, surnames tend to be regional and therefore you can normally tell if someone is from the south or the north by their surname (and sometimes looks), though of course this has changed a lot with the south-to-north mass migration in the 1950s and '60s.

These are the results for my grandparents' surnames:

and yes, I'm indeed from the purple/red province in the north-western corner!

Thanks for sharing.....

Hee hee hee, there are only 3 people in Italy with my surname. However, with an ever so anglican name of Langley, what was I to expect eh?

Yes it'd be "worrying" if it had been otherwise! LOL!
