What a liberty!
Mar. 5th, 2008 05:24 pmAdrian told me that on Monday a chap knocked at the door to let him know that we have some slipped tiles on the roof (that have been missing for months), and to offer to replace them there and then for only £50.
He was very insistent and wouldn't take no for an answer. Poor
london1952had to make up that we had already arranged for a roofer to come to do it; even then the guy wouldn't give up. And it took some doing to get rid of him.
Really, what a nerve! (You can never be too careful with people showing up at your door; plus Adrian said that this guy reminded him of the "cowboy" builder who, just after we moved in, managed to break more tiles that the ones he replaced).

I found a gay-owned B&B near Trieste on the net and e-mailed them to book a room for 4 nights in June. Their reply was polite but they said that, since it was only for 4 nights they would only accept the booking 3 weeks in advance, should the room still be free.
I had to tell them that their booking policy - especially as it is not stated on their website - is simply unacceptable and that they can keep the room.

london1952 just called; and told me that one of my "favourite" people had been in the showroom today: Michael Caine.
Adrian said - and don't you just love this - that he didn't let on that he knew who he was when he was talking to him.
(I haven't quite forgiven Caine for branding my home town - where he filmed "The Italian job" over 40 years ago - the most boring place he had ever been to!).

Earlier today, I rang my internet provider, BT Yahoo.

Earlier today, I rang my internet provider, BT Yahoo.
On Jan 28th they called me to offer a new contract; I accepted on the condition that they would send me a free wireless hub (free to all new customers - and we've been with them for a number of years). They said of course I'd get one and that I'd receive a confirmation e-mail within 48 hours. A week later no e-mail yet: I called them and they said that I'd receive a letter because they had some problems with their system.
5 weeks later still no letter and no hub, and the same feeble excuse.
