On-line pox
Apr. 25th, 2008 11:58 pmToday was pay day and I checked my bank account online from work: log-in details not recognised.
When I got home, I tried again: still not working.
I rang them up and they said that I was locked out from the account due to too many wrong attempts to log in.
What was more even worrying is that, on my home PC, the page asking for random digits from my pin no. and random characters from my password also displayed 2 never-seen-before text boxes to enter my full password and pin.
The helpdesk was adamant that my PC [with up-to-date firewall and anti-virus*] was infected (probably some trojan re-directing their website to a third party page). The account has been blocked, but I have no idea whether my salary and my savings are still there or not (when I rang another no. to check I was told that even them did not have access to it).
So tomorrow's morning I'll have to go to a branch to learn if I am penniless.
* I installed an additional anti-malware tool and it found a few adware/spyware nasties but nothing serious. Now, after re-booting the log-in page is back to normal.
