Brighton Pride 2010

Over the years I've (over)heard many people say how crap London Pride has become compared to the one in Brighton. As we had never been, it was high time to go on a fact finding trip!

Adrian suggested we re-used the costumes from 2006 and, thanks to the lovely Mike and Alex's hospitality, we had a place to go and get ready before the parade.

The day started for us with a 6 am wake-up call; we were on the train to Brighton with our bags at 7:22 am

and by the sea-side at 8 am.

Mikey very kindly picked us up at the station and drove us to the vicarage where they are staying for the week-end.

We even got a lovely cooked breakfast to fortify us for the endeavours of the day!

Shortly after breakfast it was time to get ready!

Yes the outfits are quite heavy and cumbersome and the vicar even had to move  the car off the drive as we couldn't get out!

A big thank you to everyone at the vicarage for their very kind hospitality!

We then walked down to the seafront by the pier where the parade was assembling

So far so good: it was a great atmosphere somehow more relaxed than London.
We joined the parade as instructed at the end, after the police and the shit left in vast quantities by their horses, and for a while it was fun.

Then we noticed that unlike London for most of the parade there are no barricades and people would just walk in to pose for photos, getting very crowded and rather claustrophobic at times.

It didn't help that a number of people were already high on drink (and goodness knows what else!) just after midday.
Some people were really obnoxious (mainly the youngsters) and I would have happily stuck my pink feather fan where the sun doesn't shine!

After walking for what felt like hours, we finally got to Preston Park where the event was.

It was rather crowded!

Here we saw Mike and Alex again, and bumped into some other people we knew near the 'bear tent',
We didn't stay long as we were on the train back to sanity London at 4:19 pm!

So what's the verdict? Is it really better than London? I don't know about that.
If you like the 'party' yes it must be; if you hate crowds it's even worse that the event in capital. In my personal opinion there is also a higher concentration of morons too!

We are glad we went and we enjoyed it, probably more now that it is over!

Absolutely stunning costumes, Franco! I want one! I've never been to Brighton Pride - nor London, come to that. Glad you and Adrian had a good time. Enjoy being at home this evening.

We had a very lazy Saturday night and Sunday!

Very cool! Verry Clever!

(I also like the "Big down under" green shirt in the 4th picture, not to mention the fellow wearing it, YUM!)

Is green-shirt guy a buddy of yours? Tell him he has an admirer in the Far western states.

;)

We will let him know via our friends (although he's dating the guy in the red t-shirt)

Well, mixed reviews on Brighton, but you did Pride proud!

The tourist board should pay us for every photo we had taken with tourists! lol!

I was going to say "[livejournal.com profile] london1952 + Ikea bags = WIN!" in response to the 2nd photo, but then I saw the one of him dressed as a table of tea and gorgeous nibbly bits, so I was going to say "[livejournal.com profile] london1952 as tea and crumpets FTW!", but then I saw the last photo of the both of you as a tea party, so…I'm confuzzed.

[identity profile] theoctothorpe.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It's prettymuch WIN, all the way down =)

[identity profile] danthered.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, I thought it was turtles all the way down.

[identity profile] theoctothorpe.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
That as well =)

[identity profile] london1967.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! And thanks for 'friending' me back.

[identity profile] theoctothorpe.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
For some reason I thought I did ages ago. Now fixed =)

[identity profile] london1967.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL!
It was a tea party with no tea.

LOL I didn't know Marie Antoinette had sunglasses!

You guys look just hysterical! *more LOL*

[identity profile] london1967.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes she's very up to date with the modern trends! lol

[identity profile] mrdreamjeans.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'll settle for these photos of your inspired costumes! So much cleverness and humor on display. I don't like crowds or parties, so this post will suit me just fine:)

HUGS!

[identity profile] london1967.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks very much, Neil!

And hugs back.

I have to confess I like the very-appropos "HOT" ensemble better, but the other one is indeed impressive!

I use my blue IKEA bags for any number of other purposes too. :)

Thank you for sharing the day with us.

[identity profile] london1967.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks very much, Joe!
Glad you enjoyed the photos.

Marie Antoinette tea-tables! Let them eat cake...in Brighton. I'm certain that many people there enjoyed your regal presences. Thanks for the pics and the commentary. I'll take a the pass on the event, but will gladly dine at your table--or Mary-Anne's--anytime.

[identity profile] london1967.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, Bob!
And you are certainly always very welcome at our table.

Those costumes are fabulous...I couldn't help laughing though as the two of you put me in mind of Florence and Emily in 'Little Britain'. (In fact they did a sketch along the front at Brighton). But what a shame that the crowds were somewhat feral. At least you have now been and experienced Brighton Pride. personally I think you both looked great and thanks for the pics.

We thought about the "two ladies" as well!

And thanks very much for the compliments, Al!
