Sweet temptations

I have just had lunch and, on top of that, had a couple of M&S Chocolate Chunk cookies so I can safely post about this, without abandoning my desk and rushing out to Sainsbury's to buy a jar.

I've been obsessing thinking about Nutella since reading a comment on [livejournal.com profile] brunorepublic 's journal the other day.

What is that makes this hazelnut and chocolate spread so alluring to me?

it's nostalgia, I think.

We were born in the same corner of Italy (Nutella is 3 years older but has fewer lines and wrinkles) and Nutella takes me right back to my childhood, to a time of innocence when I didn't know anything about what foods were good or bad for you.
I used to eat it by the spoonful (and I could still do it today!)

'Pane e nutella' (or being a Torinese, 'grissini e nutella' was just the perfect snack or merenda)

Nutella is part of the collective consciousness of many Italians: it even appears in Nanni Moretti's film "Bianca"

I wonder: is Nutella even better than sex?

In the last few weeks we have been hitting the Nutella hard. We went through two small jars so my partner bought the bigger size and we have eaten our way through two of those.

A number of years ago we stayed in a Landmark Trust Property near Smithfield Market. Around the corner was a little sandwich shop that catered to the workers at the meat market. It was the first time I had seen a Nutella Sandwich offered on a menu. I just couldn't order Nutella on Working class Bloke.

I don't think I have ever seen a Nutella sandwich on a menu (but plenty of crêpes).

Nutella can be very addictive! lol!

Big hugs!

The first time I had Nutella was in Germany in 1979 (I was 16) and it completely rocked my world. I don't eat it very often now, because I tend to start overdoing it, but I love it.

And, from personal experience, I can tell you that when I attempted to use Nutella in the bedroom, it was less than stellar. (It also would have helped if my boyfriend at the time had told me he didn't like Nutella before we started, rather than during...)

When I was in Germany, I would have days where breakfast was almost entirely chocolate: cocoa, nutella on toast, nutella on my fingers (which is a no-no culturally in Germany, but I tried to be discreet), some cold cuts, an egg, more nutella.

Seconded!

That's very wise: I don't buy these days as I cannot help myself and eat it until I almost feel sick! LOL!

mmmmmmm... Nutella in the bedroom sounds kinky!

It does sound kinky, but it is a little too sticky.

Nutella and sex are not mutually exclusive...
...just saying.

[identity profile] london1967.livejournal.com 2010-07-31 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
That's very true, although I haven't mixed the two together yet!

Ah, so it's called merenda (merienda in Castillian)

We have a knock off Nutella called Nocilla. We all love it as children until we try the original stuff... Yummy. Get the ad that I watched as a child:

That looks very similar to some of the Nutella adverts!

About Nutella…

[identity profile] ursine1.livejournal.com 2010-07-31 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
From Nutella's US website:

Ingredients: sugar, modified palm oil, hazelnuts, cocoa, skim milk, reduced minerals whey (from milk), soy lecithin: an emulsifier, vanillin: an artificial flavor.

As the Diesel ads say: use with caution.

Oh yes, all the yummy things are not good for you!
