When I was young...

I realise that I'm probably not old enough to start sentences with "when I was young"... but when I was young(er) things used to be more exciting.

When I was young, I used to watch "Space: 1999" and fantasize about space travel. The year 2000 felt as remote as Alpha Centauri and I pinned all sorts of optimistic and unrealistic expectations on that milestone.

Technology used to be exciting. I remember the first time I saw a computer: I just couldn't believe my eyes! I started a love affair with them that lasted for years.

But now well PCs and software are a pain and shiny new gadgets only command my attention for a few moments.

Perhaps it's time to shut down, go for a walk or read a book?

If you are going for a walk, don't forget your iPhone. And as for reading, you'll need an Amazon Kindle for that.

No, wait ...

Read a book AND play with computers. :)

Or get the computer to read me a book?

With all that fresh air, flora and fauna, and verbiage, will the moderns even comprehend what you have done and learned?

Some technologies are wonderful and some distract from actual life!

I guess the trick is to get the balance right.
